RF Ablation Lung, Adrenal, Kidney, Bone

Aside from RF ablation ( Radiofrequency ablation ) of the liver, we have performed successfully RF ablation of lesions in the adrenal gland, bone, lung (primary and metastatic disease) and kidneys. The adrenal mass was a metastatic lesion from a primary lung malignancy. The main indication for RF ablation of metastatic bone disease is for control of pain. Some of our lung cases and kidneys are surgically resectable. However, the patients opted for RF ablation due to co-morbidities or refused to undergo surgery.

Smallest nodule biopsied so far

Up to now, the smallest nodule I've ever biopsied under CT guidance was 8 mm. More recently, I've had to do a 6 mm and a 5 mm nodule. The first image shows one of the nodules in the medial segment of the right middle lobe. The second images shows the g.22 needle tip in the nodule. The CT image at the level of the pelvis shows the primary lesion which is a giant cell tumor involving the right iliac crest. Biopsy showed giant cells in the biopsy specimen.
